Dr Rose Boucaut, Ed D, MPH, Grad Dip Advanced Manipulative Therapy, Dip Tech Physiotherapy, FACP*
*As awarded as awarded by the Australian College of Physiotherapists in 2008
Rose is a Fellow of the Australian College of Physiotherapists and a Specialist Occupational Health Physiotherapist. At the University of South Australia, she coordinates the final year Bachelor of Physiotherapy course, ”Work Health and Safety Practice” within Allied Health and Human Performance as an introduction to Occupational Health Physiotherapy practice. Rose was elected the inaugural President of the International Federation of Physiotherapists working in Occupational Health and Ergonomics (IFPOHE) Executive Committee in 2019. IFPOHE is a formal subgroup of World Physiotherapy.
Morten Høgh, MSc, PhD, PT
Morten is currently serving as an Associate Professor at Aalborg University’s Faculty of Medicine in Denmark. Dr. Høgh’s work is rooted in bridging the gap between clinical practice and academic research to enhance the understanding and treatment of chronic pain. Throughout his career, Dr. Høgh has been instrumental in shaping pain science education. His contributions include the development of curricula and examination standards for various health professions under the auspices of the European Pain Federation (EFIC). He serves as the Chair of the EFIC Academy, where he leads initiatives to provide online learning resources for professionals and academics, enhancing the global reach and impact of pain education. He is the co-founder and Chairman of the Danish Society for Pain and Physiotherapy and has held key positions in the European Pain Federation’s educational committee. In recognition of his contributions, Dr. Høgh received the prestigious EFIC Pain Champion Award in 2023, marking him as the first Dane to achieve this honor.
Pauliina Kangas, MD, PhD
Pauliina is a chief physician at The Finnish Institute of Occupational Health. Pauliina Kangas works as a developer and researcher on TYÖOTE-project aiming at better work ability in Finland, as well as efficient collaboration between health care providers.
Jaro Karppinen, MD, PhD
Jaro is a specialist and Professor of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine at the University of Oulu (emeritus) and working as Director of Rehabilitation services in Wellbeing Services County of South Karelia, Finland. He has a wide research spectrum including environmental, metabolic and genetic risk factors of musculoskeletal disorders. His current research interests focus on artificial intelligence-based analytics of lumbar magnetic resonance imaging, population-level rehabilitation interventions and on biopsychosocial care pathways in primary healthcare among patients with musculoskeletal disorders. He has published over 300 peer-reviewed scientific publications in international journals. He is a member of the European Academy of Rehabilitation Medicine.
Paul Kuijer, PhD, PT
Paul is a professor at the Department of Public and Occupational Health at the Amsterdam UMC, Amsterdam, the Netherlands. In his research, teaching, and patient care, he tries to enhance work-integrating care and prevention among workers with musculoskeletal disorders in physically demanding jobs. His research interest focuses on 1) work-integrating care and prevention, particularly for 2) workers with knee and hip osteoarthritis and low back pain, as well as 3) advancing occupational disease assessments.
Anna-Sofia Simula, Specialist in General Medicine.
Anna-Sofia has conducted research on low back pain care in primary care. She led a back pain research project to study the effectiveness of a low back pain booklet and the effectiveness of a classification- based care for low back pain in primary care using the STarT Back Tool. Her passion is to solve the everyday challenges of primary health care in her everyday work in the South Savo Wellbeing Services County and in a few ongoing research projects related to the treatment pathways for musculoskeletal disorders. For her, it is important to make good care understandable and as easy as possible to implement for both patient and professional.
Riikka Holopainen, PhD, Occupational Health PT
Riikka is a musculoskeletal physiotherapist, lecturer and researcher. She completed her PhD in 2021, and the topic of her thesis was biopsychosocial approach in the management of musculoskeletal conditions. Currently, she works part-time as clinical expert at South Savo Wellbeing Services County in Finland combining clinical work and developing rehabilitation practices. In addition, she is involved in multiple research projects that are focused on musculoskeletal conditions, person centered care and communication, and implementing evidence-based care pathways. She also teaches these topics in continuing education workshops and she has been a frequent invited lecturer.
